| Biography |
Sarah is a Bachelor of Education graduate of Flinders University in South Australia. She taught at Aitken College, another Uniting Church school, since its foundation in 1999. During those years she has taught most year levels in the primary school, as a classroom teacher and as a specialist teacher of RVE (Religion, Values and Ethics Education) and Primary Science.
Sarah is dedicated to creating an environment where trust, respect and confidence can thrive in the classroom through a variety of strategies. She believes exposing children to a variety of teaching styles and learning methodologies, while catering for their individual needs, helps nurture children and develop them emotionally, academically and socially, assisting them to reach their full potential. Sarah aims to develop a three-way partnership between herself, the students and parents, ensuring that students gain the best possible education. These practices have developed due to her wealth of experience in working with primary school aged children and she is looking forward to developing a caring classroom atmosphere in a new setting.
Sarah’s passion for education extends outside of the classroom to her involvement as a Committee Member and Section Coordinator of the Science Talent Search. She has also been a judge at Regional, State and National Tournament of Minds Competitions for many years. She has also mentored students and school groups in preparation for these interschool competitions.
Outside her very busy work schedule, Sarah also finds the time to indulge in her love of choral singing by being a member of a chamber choir and is an avid reader of literature, written for both adults and children.
Having been a foundation staff member previously, Sarah is well aware of the challenge and the excitement of the years ahead for the Acacia College community. She is looking forward to being able to make a contribution to the development of a nurturing school community, in which all students are encouraged to flourish in a range of directions.
