Keir Baker
Title
Teacher - Prep-Year 8, Health and PE/Sport
Biography After graduating from RMIT with a Bachelor Degree in Applied Science (Physical Education), Keir joined the team at Mill Park Heights Primary School as a Physical Education Specialist.

He pioneered an after-school sport gala evening which generated huge parent and community support and created an alternative sport program which developed a strong relationship with RMIT.  It has subsequently become part of the Department of Exercise Science teaching program.

After spending 6 years in the primary sector, Keir became a foundation member and Head of PE/Health at The Lakes P-9 School in South Morang. This experience gave him valuable insight into Middle Years schooling and the educational needs of adolescents.

Keir promotes a teaching philosophy that is genuinely inclusive and he believes that everyone has value both on and off the field. His approach to Physical Education and Health is, like the College’s emblem (the Scarlet Blaze), fresh, unique and surprising. He is passionate about participation in sport and will always look to create new opportunities for his students.

Keir is also the co-author of www.physed.com.au, a website dedicated to helping other physical education teachers deepen and expand their teaching programs. He believes that technology should not be limited to the classroom and regularly uses video analysis as a form of visual feedback for the students. He has created a photo gallery, capturing each skill, frame by frame, to explicitly demonstrate each component.

Mention anything sporty and Keir will give it a go. He is not limited to any one particular sport but has a passion for all. He is an active basketball player, has a first dan black belt in Taekwondo, and has a keen interest in cycling.

Keir is excited to be part of the 2010 Foundation Year of Acacia College and looks forward to contributing to the school and broader community.
