| Biography |
Lara has been immersed in the Arts since she can remember; as a performer and artist, and now as a teacher. Lara began a Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University, but the call to teaching rang out and Lara will graduate from RMIT University this year with a Bachelor of Education, majoring in the Arts. Lara has the distinction of receiving the 2009 Art Education Victoria Award for excellence, dedication and innovation in Visual Arts Learning.
During her four years of study Lara has volunteered at Heidi Museum of Modern Art, assisting the Education Officer to deliver a range of programs for primary students. Lara has also been employed by Riot Art & Craft as a Store Supervisor and Visual Merchandiser, further developing her knowledge of art supplies and their applications. Completing her final Professional Placement at the world-class Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Lara delivered TV/film workshops using virtual sets and green screen (chroma-key) technology along with a range of other screen literacy programs for students and teachers from Prep to Year 9. She found ACMI to be a vibrant and exciting environment to see students develop their passions for filmmaking while both experiencing and becoming critically aware of the technology that the digital world encompasses.
Recently Lara was invited by the lecturers to speak to the third year Bachelor of Education students at RMIT to discuss a children’s book she had written. Her topic was discussing the writing process, illustrating the book and how this has impacted her as a teacher. The lecture was greatly received and Lara looks forward to continuing her teaching development through higher education.
Lara believes we need “innovative learning in new times while creating the whole person for the best possible future”. A local to the area, Lara is committed and passionate about becoming a key part of the unique Acacia College educational community.
